Congresmena Loretta Sanchez, co-presedinta grupului de prietenie cu Romania din Congres (Congressional Romania Caucus) a oferit un interviu in exclusivitate pentru Romanian Community Coalition, dupa ce aceasta a vizitat comunitatea greco-catolica "Sf. Ioan Botezatorul" din Tustin, California, pe data de 18 ianuarie 2015.
In interviu aceasta a vorbit despre importanta libertatii religioase si respectarii drepturilor omului in Romania, despre programul de lupta anti-coruptie sustinut de Departamentul de Stat in Europa de Est, si despre numirea unui nou ambasador american in Romania.
Tot cu aceasta ocazie, Congresmena Sanchez a adresat si un mesaj trupelor americane de la baza Kogalniceanu, despre care a spus ca "sunt acolo pentru a ajuta poporul roman in situatia oricarui tip de criza.", precum si un mesaj pentru romanii de pretutindeni, carora le-a multumit pentru ca sunt aliati puternici ai Statelor Unite.
Interviul a fost realizat de pr. Chris Terhes, presedintele Romanian Community Coalition, cea mai larga organizatie a romanilor din SUA creata cu scopul de a da o voce comunitatii romanesti din America, a intari legatura dintre Romania si SUA, si de a sprijini statul de drept in Romania.

Pr. Terhes: Va multumesc Congresmena Sanchez pentru ca ati vizitat comunitatea greco-catolica de la Misiunea "Sf. Ioan Botezatorul" aici in Tustin, Orange County, California. Ce mesaj aveti pentru romanii greco-catolici din Statele Unite si Romania?
Congresmena Sanchez: Noi in America mereu am crezut in libertatea religioasa. Este intotdeauna extraordinar sa vezi cum o comunitate se aduna impreuna, mai ales datorita convingerilor religioase. Speranta mea este nu numai ca romanii sa isi practice credinta aici in America, dar si in Romania. Dorinta noastra este ca poporul roman sa aiba libertate, libertatea de exprimare, libertatea de intrunire, libertate religioasa, libertatea presei. Este ceea ce credem si acestea sunt standardele internationale in domeniul drepturilor omului.
Pr. Terhes: Recent Departamentul de Stat a anuntat ca are un plan pentru a lupta impotriva coruptiei in Europa de Est. Ce ne puteti spune despre acel plan?
Congresmena Sanchez: Unul dintre lucrurile pe care am reusit sa le facem (America in colaborare cu multi alti aliati si tari care doresc sa elimine coruptia) [a fost] votarea de noi legi financiare pentru activitatea de business din America, chiar daca sunt implicate companii straine. Am initiat reglementari pentru sectorul bancar, astfel incat sa putem vedea unde au fost transferati banii, am deschis conturi.
De exemplu, legile bancare din Elvetia nu mai sunt la fel ca in trecut, nici din alte tari in care s-ar ascunde active. Primul lucru este gasirea legaturii financiare dintre tranzactii. Am fost foarte norocosi ca multe tari ne ajuta in acest scop, iar Romania fiind parte a Europei va fi, de asemenea, sub acest control. Si aceasta este numai o modalitate prin care oprim aceasta coruptie de la a mai continua.
Pr. Terhes: Statele Unite nu au inca un ambasador in Romania. Cand credeti ca administratia [Obama] va nominaliza un ambasador la Bucuresti?
Congresmena Sanchez: Am fost atat de privilegiata de a merge in Romania de atatea ori. E mult mai bine atunci cand Statele Unite au acolo intaiul reprezentant, ambasadorul, pentru a ajuta. Pentru a ajuta in atat de multe feluri. Pentru a ajuta la consolidarea institutiilor pentru poporul roman, pentru a lucra cu Guvernul, pentru a lucra pe alianta strategica si militara pe care o avem, pentru a lucra la bunastarea economica nu numai pentru Statele Unite, dar si pentru romani. Asadar sper ca presedintele Obama va numi un ambasador in Romania - asa cum spunem in America - ASAP, cat mai curand posibil. Mi-as dori ca data viitoare cand voi merge acolo sa avem deja un ambasador numit.

Congresmena Sanchez: Ca unul dintre liderii democrati pe domeniul militar din Congres, sunt foarte mandra de trupele americane, indiferent unde sunt stationate. Exista 120 de tari unde avem prezenta militara. Prezenta lor in Romania ofera siguranta activitatilor de comert in Marea Neagra, ii impiedica pe cei care incearca sa faca rau in special aliatilor NATO. Trupele noastre sunt acolo pentru a ajuta poporul roman in situatia oricarui tip de criza.
Asa ca trupelor noastre le transmit: Sunt cu adevarat mandra de munca pe care o fac aici, in Statele Unite, si in intreaga lume.
Pr. Terhes: Dupa intalnirea de azi cu o comunitate romaneasca din Orange County, si in calitate de co-presedinte al Caucus-ului pentru Romania din Congres, ce mesaj aveti pentru romanii de pretutindeni?
Congresmena Sanchez: As dori sa spun poporului roman: va multumesc! Va multumesc pentru ca sunteti cel mai puternic aliat, pentru ca doriti si intelegeti faptului ca America este prietenul vostru. Va multumesc pentru colaborarea cu noi. Va multumesc pentru ca ati trecut prin schimbari foarte drastice in ultimii 25 de ani. Dupa caderea comunismului ati trecut la economia de piata, au avut loc schimbari, iar voi ati invatat mai multe despre libertate, despre optiuni. Va multumesc pentru ca sunteti un popor atat de energic. Va multumesc pentru ca sunteti un popor cu spirit antreprenorial. Va multumesc din nou pentru ca suneti un aliat atat de puternic cu poporul american.
Pr. Terhes: Va multumesc doamna congresmen Sanchez.

Fr. Terhes: Thank you so much Congresswoman Sanchez for visiting the Romanian Greek-Catholic community of “Sf. John the Baptist” Romanian Catholic Mission here in Tustin, Orange County, California. What is your message to the Romanian Greek-Catholics in the United States and Romania?
Congresswoman Sanchez: We in America always believe in freedom of religion. It’s always exciting to see a community come together, especially in their spiritual beliefs. My hope would be that not only can Romanian-Americans practice their faith as they wish here in America, but also in Romania. Our wish is that the Romanian people have an ability for freedom, for freedom of speech, for freedom of assembly, for freedom of religion, for freedom of the press. It's what we believe and those are the international human rights standards of the world.
Fr. Terhes: Recently the State Department announced that it has a plan for fighting corruption in Eastern Europe. What can you tell about that plan?
Congresswoman Sanchez: One of the things that we have been able to do, America in conjunction with so many other allies and countries that wish to eliminate corruption, [was] new financial laws that we have passed on businesses that would interact in America, even if they are foreign businesses. We putted a lot of practices to the banking so that we could see where the money have been shifted, we opened up account numbers. For example, the Swiss banking laws are not the same any longer, nor some of the countries in other places that would hide people's assets. The beginning is the find the financial string of transactions. We have been very fortunate with many countries to help us with respect to that, and Romania being a part of Europe will also be under that scrutiny. And that is one way in which we stop this corruption from continuing.
Fr. Terhes: The United States does not have an ambassador to Romania. When do you think the administration will appoint a new ambassador to Bucharest?
Congresswoman Sanchez: I've been so privileged to go to Romania so many times. And it's always much better when the United States has its number one person, its ambassador right there in Romania to help. To help in so many ways. To help with institution building for the Romanian people, to work with the Government, to work on the strategic and military alliance that we have, to work on economic wellbeing not only for the United States but also for Romanians. So I would hope that President Obama puts an Ambassador there - as we way in America - ASAP, as soon as possible. I look forward to the next time being there hopefully to have our Ambassador stationed.
Fr. Terhes: You received an impressive letter from the US Maries of Black Sea Rotational Force stationed at Kogalniceanu base, close to Constanta. What message do you have for them?
Congresswoman Sanchez: As one of the ranking senior democrats with respects to the military in the Congress, I am so proud of my United State troops, whatever they are stationed. There are 120 different countries where we have a military presence. And of course, to be there in Romania, to insure that the Black Sea is for commerce, to insure that those that would mean to hurt the NATO alliance in particular, our troops are there to help the Romanian people in case of any type of a crisis.
And so to my troops: I am truly truly proud of the work that they do here in the United States and all over the world.
Fr. Terhes: After meeting today with a Romanian community in Orange County, and as co-chair of the Congressional Romania Caucus, what message do you have for Romanians everywhere?
Congresswoman Sanchez: I would like to say to the Romanian people: thank you! Thank you for being the strongest ally, for wanting and understanding that America is your friend. Thank you for working with us. Thank you for going through the very drastic changes that many of you have in the last 25 years. As communism went down, and as you adopted a market economy, as changes happened, as you learned about more liberty, about choices. Thank you for being such a resilient people. Thank you for being such an entrepreneurial people. Thank you again for being such a great ally with the United States people.
